This drawing was inspired by an ongoing examination of the portrait using different facial poses to express emotion. Since the Early Renaissance artists have frequently identified depicting themselves as either the main subject, or as important characters in their work. This is a reflection of my own practice, an ongoing study of emotion, mental health and age. This drawing was started in black and white as a sketch which continued onto become a final realised in black and white drawing using ink and watercolour on a strong pure white, textured watercolor paper.
