Born 29 October 1981. Hendrik is a professional fine artist. Born and raised in the Southern Boland near Cape Town he has actively pursued a career in the arts since his first year in high school, exploring several potential avenues ranging form comics, animation and photography before settling on fine art and possibilities in feature film work which he is currently exploring. He has exhibited in his native South Africa on numerous occasions, including a solo show at Salon 91 Contemporary in Cape Town. His work has also been shown in Auckland and New York. Websites:.dutchman.art.photographyMotivationThe object of the work I have submitted and my work in general is to communicate a developing worldview to the audience. I say developing, because I am aware of the organic process of growth each person goes through as new things are experienced and old memories are filed away, to whatever end. Many may see themselves as complete or beyond improvement, some may not even give it a single thought, but the progressive nature(in some) of this growth is what I rely on in my work in order to witness and document this change in myself, however subtle it may seem I the moment. A countless multitude of ideas occur and burst like bubbles in our thoughts and I have duly committed myself to capturing even the merest snapshots of these fleeting visions on paper, canvas, film and whatever other media may present itself as conducive to the process. If not for the purpose of public presentation, then for archiving to use in further work. I can only hope that some may be thus moved as I have been in devouring art with my eyes and growing to reproduce it in some capacity. Sincere thanks for this opportunity to present my work.Hendrik GerickeStatement of IntentThe art I produce is primarily to reflect my views of the world to the audience, albeit in a manner that is often not a direct reflection of that world, but somewhat more interpretive. I wish to stimulate the same curiosity in others through my art as I experience through the world I see around me. In violent reaction the apparent lack of internal quality-control that seems to be so prevalent in the various communities of contemporary arts, I set myself very high standards, ensuring my workmanship is of a level that the public deserves, rather than presenting them with an inferior product and then berating them when they (rightly) question its legitimacy.
