Art Description

Drawing: Clay, Ink, Colored Ink on Other.

I can't walk by produce without being stopped in my tracks by the sheer beauty of the ordinary. A simple beet with a leafy top, small marks across the outer layer, I couldn't help but be inspired. Rather going home and cooking it, I started to draw with my X-ACTO knife digging into the layers of India ink and clay. When I was happy with the forms, I began to paint with colored inks until it began to come alive. I like to mix the black leave some of the shapes the pure black and white to set off the deep colors. I layered black acrylic paint across the background to add the texture of soil and make the image pop!
