About The Artwork

Bela. Always Bela. Le Gorille Noir in all dimensions at once surging toward San Pedro Street in a dark sedan after the bars close, sand dust whipped into his lungs by the Santa Ana winds, his head a dim Chinese gift shop; three dozen kilos waiting for him and the boys. Black Friday, baby- all the imaginary guns locked and loaded.

My youth was spent in Sacramento, California, where my father taught art at Sacramento State University (nee college) where I appeared ass a juvenile in school plays ("Auntie Mame", "Our Town", "King Lear.") Since age 17 I have been a professional actor, which eventually led me to Cal Arts, where I eventually studied screenwriting under the tutelage of director Alexander Mackendrick. In 1975 I spent two unbelievably thrilling weeks working as an actor in Orson Welles' still unfinished masterwork "The Other Side of the Wind." I have also worked with directors as varied as Ulli Lommel, Robert Dornhelm, Graeme Clifford, Norman Corwin and Pat O'Neill. Since the mid-1990s, I have made my living doing voice work for commercials, anime, and video games, such as "Street Fighter" (Zangief), and "World of Warcraft." I have also written extensively for such publications as Modern Times, Video Watchdog, Venice Magazine, and in 2010 I published my first novel, "Dead Hollywood." The sequel, "Dead Hollywood Exhumed," is due to be published next year. In the year 2000, I looked up my childhood love of painting - my first favored means of artistic expression - and found it was still there.
