This bronze wire-like drawing of a young oboe-player is cast into a glass slab and laminated to a painted canvas. You can imagine the beauty of the music...

I drew her in 2016, in Shrewsbury, in my studio, creating two works, of which this is the larger. It's drawn in ink loaded with very finely ground bronze metal, directly onto a prepared glass. This plate is then kiln cast, during which the bronze moves into and becomes part of the glass, creating a beautiful line in blue/black bronze patena. The stain is then applied in several steps until the image is all I'd hoped it would become. Finally, the cast glass plate has been laminated to a stretched canvas on a box frame, which I've textured with acrylics chosen to set off the cast glass image.

Ana cuts a powerful and enigmatic figure... I hope you can hear her music...
