Choker Drawing

Part of my Beautiful Men series that capture the subtleties of the male form through strong control of both the subject and the composition. I want to show the strength of men through a soft light, hence my use of soft conte contrasted with a sharp darkness. A comment on how men are expected to be strong and stiff, not unlike a tree, when in truth they are just as beautiful and capable of delicacies just like the women that art usually has as the subject. Here we have Choker, a man held back by his own strength and the delicate pink string holding him. Connecting the source of a mans power, his hands, to the vulnerable neck, it opens up the chest for closer scrutiny at the leisure of the viewer. I chose to narrow focus on one segment of the body so the eye can greater appreciate it without the need to acknowledge the rest of the form.
