About The Artwork
The work, one of two large studies, is inspired by the gently stirring water surfaces of the pools on the Cragside Estate in Northumberland England. The algae creates patterns and contrasts that are other worldly yet familiar. They take you to another world yet one you know so well. The drawings are large studies for paintings. Using large graphite sticks enables me to move quickly and intuitively, a bit like the momentary, transient worlds you see on water.
