About The Artwork

It is a project that was born within the framework of the demonstrations that took place in Ecuador, October 2019 and seeks to reflect on the legitimate role of the collective taking of public space as a democratic ritual for the popular construction of the state based on certain political decisions, social, economic, etc. In the first instance, what I did was a collection of tire ashes in the public space of the city of Cuenca, (tires used in the October demonstrations) and I made a graphite or cisco to develop the artistic proposal, which consists of two plays; In the first, I represent my face as an artist but also as a citizen of this multi-ethnic and intergenerational territory (elderly, female, mestizo, indigenous, Afro, etc.), understanding that recognition as an act of empathy suggested in the demonstrations, where interculturality is summoned for the active participation of the country's political direction and in the second work I graphed a series of objects that over the years in Latin America have been used in different manifestations, as a kind of archaeological objects that in some future nearby will suggest the different "democratic" paths of the region. The aesthetics of the work is based on the image of the glitch (error in digital culture), and I seek to reflect on how the act of the demonstration becomes a glitch or error within the constitutional parameters of democracy, but without However, they are a legitimate and necessary act for the participatory transformation of peoples.

Active member and founder of the LaKomuna art collective. Since 2008 I have linked my creative processes with different activist spaces related to the protection of nature and the environment from rural sectors of Ecuador, an experience that has been forged with my artistic production and management, understanding different aesthetics around creative artivism, art and activism. and the community practices of the southern Ecuadorian highlands, dynamics such as barter, minka, collective spaces such as the assembly, etc. They have influenced me in different methodical ways when building an "artistic" project, appropriating these resources to apply them in my production, experiences that help me to improve the conditions in the development and execution of my artistic productions, this topic I always put in questioning in the development of production, by the ways of understanding the different methods of creation and research in the field of culture and education, with the aim of transgressing / reflecting on dogmatic and immutable foundations practiced in mestizo / indigenous peoples and communities from the sierra area of Ecuador.
