The background has some washed-out oranges, reds and purples, very slight colour. This piece is part of a series of abstract portraits where the method followed is automatic drawing. Consumed with rediscovering my identity as an artist I found that identity should be kept out of the creation process, hence denying the ego and creating from presence.

Artistically it is more neo-expressionism with a nod to Basquiat and Hering.

I truly hope to evoke emotion, and to create work that is conceptual and encourages reflection or introspection. I feel strongly about mental health, the search for enlightenment and the state of our consumer society and creating collections around these topics. I create unique paintings and sculptures with various mediums, but my love is clay. I feel that every piece of clay has its own little soul and character and I want this to come through in the final piece. I like the naive look of handbuilding and the aesthetic appeal of the imperfections. I prefer the work to be as close to the raw materials as possible and seldom use glaze. I create in a state of flow, it is intuitive and spontaneous. Too much planning tends to make creation feel unnatural and this can show in the piece. I am inspired by ancient art, primitive art and pop culture.
