ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Wildly growing beets are fun to draw and paint. Eating them is a bit less satisfying. My little French gardener digs them though. Gouache & Ink on paper.

Mary Beth McAllister is a designer, illustrator and sculptor. Her originals have hung in Galerie d'Orsay, Newbury Street, Boston, Kensington-Stobart Gallery, Salem, MA and James Yarosh Gallery, NJ. Since childhood when her garden magically morphed into a lagoon, her experiences were unto themselves a creative genre craving expression. Studies in England as a fine arts major allowed for passport into France and French influences. She entered the glamorous world of publishing at Condé Nast, built an accessory design business thanks to Bendels, Bergdorfs and Bloomingdales. Press by Vogue and WWD provided much needed creative courage. She designed promotional gifts for Oscar de la Renta Fragrances and Shiseido Cosmetics. A young newlywed move to the country found mb creating murals for interiors at hunting lodges, commercial interiors, and Hamilton Farms including the suite frequented by HRH Prince Charles. Mb designed 4 installations for the juried Mansion in May Designer Showhouses, most recently at Blairsden, Peapack, NJ. The concept for her balcony design space was a checkerboard of lettuce and moss populated with her sculptures entitled, The Garden Keepers, based upon her original drawings. Les Gardiens du Jardin are the French cousins of The Garden Keepers, and just maybe, they will become sculptures too. We are reminded once again Mb never does anything small.
