Jennifer Crouch is an artist, teacher, researcher and maker. She is current artist in residence at UCL Centre for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI) and took part in the Arctic Circle Residency in 2016. Jennifer is a creator of illustrated dioramas; meticulous drawings; bright fleshy paintings; collaborations with scientists; interactive educational experiences and ceramic objects. Her work investigates the role of representation in knowledge production and communication. The fact that there is structure as well as genuine ambiguity and mystery in the universe, is something from which both physics and art thrive. Jennifer - who studied physics and illustration at university - is fascinated by relationships (and differences) between art and science. As well as exploring and creating connections between art and science, her artwork seeks engross the visual field with texture, colour and sensory experiences. Corporial experience, gestures and techniques are important points of reference in her work, leading to an exploration of physical experiences and their related abstractions such as numbers, symbols, functions, codes, pictograms to concepts and phonetic sounds. Jennifer Crouch is founder and director of Making in Transit and member and co-founder of the Art/Physics collective Jiggling Atoms. She has worked with anatomists at Saint George's University, the Gordon Museum of Pathology, with entomologists at the Natural History Museum and physicists at Queen Mary University. She is tutor for Anatomical Drawing at Central Saint Martins; a qualified Art and Design & Technology teacher (with QTS and NQT status); and is currently studying a MSc in Analytical Bioscience at Birkbeck University London.
