ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The viewpoint of the pose gives the audience a sense that the woman has relaxed to the point of peaceful slumber taking her to the land of dreams. The style is that of the artist, only influenced by the pose. Josephine intentionally left her sketch marks, giving a fluidity to the movement of the piece. She also purposefully used the white of the paper as the highlights, the black charcoal to create form and depth, and the bistre charcoal used sparingly to give a touch of life to the piece. This is a drawing from a college Anatomy course, drawn in studio. The professor chose the medium, subject matter and pose.
