This piece showcases the plight of many people in the world. What they have been subjected to or what they have subjected themselves to for the sole aim of survival. The girl in the art piece represents people who had/have dreams and aspirations, people who wanted to survive and thrive. These people are seen to be on a page placed on a burnt wood with nails on the wood. The page tearing to expose the burnt wood. Here I tried to represent the pain and afflictions, the toil and hardship with the burnt wood and nails. What is already burnt cannot be restored and they already are on a page of no restoration. Cases of rape most especially, how do you restore one's sanity? Once the pain has been inflicted, it stays with the person. So the wood represents the stagnation of pain and the tear in the paper represents the immediate or the slow deterioration of people's life who have been living with so much pain. These deterioration may be inflicted or naturally induced and of course when a material reaches a breaking point, it collapses. So this art piece was made to showcase to the world what happens when we inflict pain on people directly or indirectly and to speak for the people who are afraid to be heard.
