Born in Stirling in Scotland in 1968. Art was my strongest subject at school and always achieving the highest marks. During school years (1982-1984) I was placed three consecutive years in the Glasgow Museums & Art Galleries School Art Competition for Scotland and achieved Commended, Highly Commended and Bronze Medal awards. In addition throughout that period I gained the High School Certificate of Merit for Art in 1985 and was also awarded Highly Commended in the STV Fashion Designer of the Year Awards. I was constantly encouraged by my Art teachers to go to Art School, either Glasgow School of Art or St Martins School of Art, London but alas I took the office administration route instead of the creative path. Fast forward 28 years of experiencing and working life..... In September 2012, I was involved in a car accident and had an operation in February 2013 on my hand to mend the damaged tendon, which, has slowly and gradually healed and mended. My car was classed as a write-off and I was signed off by my Doctor since October 2012. In August 2013 I picked up a pencil, pastel and watercolour brush and started to draw and paint. I only had cheap paper and materials to work with due to financial constraints. I am gradually moving up to using better quality paper and materials. I enjoy doing animal and people portraits, I am more passionate about doing horses and dogs. I did my first cat portrait in pastel and watercolour, which gave me the encouragement to do more. I enjoy the freedom of drawing with watercolour pencils, charcoal and pastel pencils then using watercolour paint for colour. I try to bring out the character of my models and I hope you enjoy viewing them in these medium as much as I have enjoyed painting them after a break of 28 years not drawing or painting since high school in 1985. All my work is signed "JimmyW" and dated with the month and year produced. This is my hobby and enjoyment that I am doing whilst recuperating from two surgeries on my hand.
