I am working to convey the meaning and beauty of true architecture by drawing Hanok and writing Hangul. I think Hanok and Hangul are the most beautiful buildings and letters in the world. As I majored in architecture, I know the charm of hanok better than anyone else, and share the beauty of hanok with the world and heal the hearts of modern people. My artworks show how to empty little by little and how to return to the basics. I think the true beauty lies in emptying. You have to empty it as much as you can and be as concise as you can to see yourself. I'm constantly thinking about what I want to pursue, and the results have eventually become "Korean" elements. It is the most obvious thing to express myself. For modern people full of anxiety, what they need is to get rid of useless thoughts and go back to the basics. Emptiness makes me so peaceful. 'Black' like a dot on a white drawing paper can be the meaningful calligraphy and it cleans the mind. I want to express my value to the fullest with that least condensed black dot.

I draw Hanok which is Korean traditional house and write Hangul which is Korean word with ink and water. It’s been almost 7 years since I started drawing and writing thoroughly to heal myself and I feel growing up as I keep working on it. I think Hanok and Hangul are the most significant cultural aspects that represent Korean identity. They have taught me how to live a life that suits me and allowed me find myself. As a Korean, it is natural for me to interpret Korean stories and I’m always grateful to work with familiar elements. Through my works, I portray the beauty of emptiness and importance of simplicity. I believe there are nuances that can not be conveyed through the excessive use of technique or colors. I implement the negative spaces as many as possible so that they can control within composition on the canvas freely. I also attempt to show the beauty of Korea by juxtaposing Hanok and Hangul with delicate lines, natural smudges and neat calligraphy. I contemplate finding balance within the tension between precision and ambiguity which I think is the foundation of traditional Korean art. Therefore, I strive to represent honesty and moderation, and it is not only an artwork but also an artist who communicates with the works frequently. Hanoks inspire and fascinate me first, then I start painting in the most comfortable way I can. Now this is my life and I’m used to this pattern of life. Whenever I meet people who are impressed by my works, I feel we are connected. I would love to help people appreciate the aesthetic of Korea through my works and I’ll keep listening what my works and my mind are telling me as I grow.
