About The Artwork

This piece of art was inspired based on my experience with illness. It's going beyond the looks on people's faces, going deeper into their thoughts and emotions. What they have gone through or what they are currently going through. Come to think of it, the means we check up on ourselves is to show love and kindness seems it has lost its functions. Take for instance, “Hello, How are you doing” and the reply goes “I’m fine, thank you”. More often, that is the answer we give or get as a reply. Even though the person is going through a lot of difficulties. We say this, consciously and unconsciously, probably because we thinks this is the “ideal ” response or that is the answer the fellow saying “How are you doing “ wanted to hear. I have come to realization that; parents, Clergies, the rich and those of high influence and status are mostly those living with hidden tears; given the impression that all is well, even they are actually dying. Probably because they want to serve as mentors to others and also don’t want to bring other people down emotionally with their own challenges. Keeping good faith and face in times of difficulties and challenges are encouraged but at the same time, people get deceived, thinking all bad things happen to them and good things go to others. In addition, the fact that people tend to fake this for too long causing help to pass them by. Nevertheless, I commend our parents, celebrities, mentors, Clergies... who never wanted to see us down; so therefore hiding their tears. We appreciate this, but at the same time, when it’s shared probably we can help or be a channel to get help. Let's tear the veils covering tears by asking further “How can I be of help? “ “Hope all is well?” by so doing, you gain their trust and they engage with you better and the world becomes a better place.

SOA Adewale is the Creative Director of SOA Creative World, with Bsc in Antropology, University of Ibadan. He is also a full time creative illustrator, and he has also mentored people who are now successful independent artists. Below is his Art statement "I love recreating reality as an artist. My background knowledge of anthropology influences the approach I adopt in doing this. I read books, surf the internet, listen to music pertaining to the subject matter and interview specific people to understand their opinions about the reality I hope to recreate. Afterwards, I represent gathered data using graphite, charcoal, ink, dust or paint. Challenges occur when choosing the right medium and tools, but the finished work inevitably produces the right reaction and emotions in my audience. More often, I borrow from personal experiences, historical events, cultural heritage, certain socio-political issues like corruption, inequality, discrimination, child labour, abuse, etc. I am also motivated by spirituality and various cultural beliefs guiding human behaviour. It is my belief that by employing abstract, surrealist and realist models in a contemporary art form, I can draw consciousness to the anomaly, orthodoxy and peculiarity that dwell in our culture and society."
