Art Description

Drawing: Ink, Pencil on Paper.

This is an observational drawing from the Running Horse Studio Collection of antique carousel animals. Lined up in a warehouse, they appear to be stampeding. I used them as a metaphor for social unrest and the displaced people wandering our world. Some of the carousel horses look almost real, while others are still clearly wood carvings. I liked the ambiguity of this juxtaposition.

This drawing was created with water-based crayons which become ink when water is brushed over the surface. A second overlapping drawing was applied to sharpen and clarify parts of the image. The exposed edge of the drawing reminds us of the physical quality of the materials and creates tension between the materials and the illusion.

It comes matted and shrink-wrapped for protection. Mat size is 23 x 28 inches.
