Conceptually driven, 'A Series of Predicted Events and Peculiar Statements' (2017), draw inspiration from cassette and digital recordings of psychic readings held between the years of 1993 and 2013. The works in this series are an allegorical interpretation of accurate predictions that came to fruition or statements that resonated with me. The highlighted predictions are significant turning points in my life whereas the statements are either reassurances or issues I struggled to comprehend. As a result, the work is autobiographical in nature and aims to depict real life circumstances. Apart from highlighting the accuracy of messages, the objective is to emphasise—through personal experience—life’s unexpected turns. Despite the changing situations throughout my life, the foretold outcomes were not anticipated. Steeped in symbolism, the clusters of gem-like motifs represent the continuous movement in life whereas the three jarred doors and miniature figure within the shapes denote a departure into a new and unknown phase. Some images draw on irony while others are a literal interpretation of a prediction or statement. The colour combination is not only used to relieve the seriousness of the events and statements but to demonstrate the positive transformation that followed each experience. Overall, the series invites the viewer to reflect on their life sequences and to consider whether some aspects of our lives are pre-determined or simply a creation of our own making.

I am a Brisbane-based visual research artist influenced by real life circumstances. I use a variety of media such as installation, mixed media, drawing, printmaking, photography, digital art, and video, although, the use of a particular medium will depend on the subject matter. The work I create can develop from personal or collective experiences allowing the audience to view situations that perhaps they have not personally encountered. Starting my art practice in 2003, I made the shift to a professional artist in 2009. Since then, I have completed a Doctor of Visual Arts at Griffith University, Brisbane. I have exhibited both nationally and internationally, published research papers, recipient of grants, and achieved recognition as an associate editor for various humanity journals.
