About The Artwork

My inner child was lost for so long, that I hardly knew she was there anymore. I had abandoned her, but luckily she hadn’t abandoned me. It started as a whisper, so faint that I only barely heard it, but slowly her voice grew stronger. I can hear her better now, still not very loudly, but loud enough that she can’t be ignored anymore. What is your inner child trying to tell you? What does your inner child need to hear? Through this series I want to explore how to get back to your inner child, how a faint voice from the past can help build a better future, how the wisdom of the childlike you can help you better navigate the adult world. Stop and be quiet for a moment. Notice your inner child. Treat her with compassion and loving kindness. Take her hand, bring her home. Heal. The “Inner Child” series is an ongoing series, drawn with pastels and colour pencils. The softness of the mediums, the soft colour palette, and the innocent gaze invites us into our childlike past, like a dream where reality was created.

I was born and raised on a windswept island in Northern Norway. Growing up in the far north, with its bare landscape and fierce climate, gave me an appreciation for contrasts. The bold and extravagant paired with the minimal, bright colours paired with neutrals, lavish patterns paired with simple lines. I now live in the buzzing metropole of Copenhagen, Denmark, which has it’s own set of contrasts, far from the landscapes and weather of Northern Norway, and more in its clean Nordic style mixed with the international influences of its inhabitants. My private life also has its very own contrasts; I am married to a South African, we have a very Danish daughter, three languages are mixed at will, and three ways of growing up in the world are being intertwined. I have trained as a photographer and I am self-taught as a watercolour painter and drawer. In my work, I am balancing on that fine line between minimalism and maximalism that being so immersed in contrasts throughout my life has given me. Apart from my camera, and my work as a commercial photographer, I work with watercolours, gouache, coloured pencils, and pastels. I am currently exploring impermanence, in us humans and in the world around us.
