Years ago when I started my Skin Series, I was messaged by @kellogss_99 . She is an amazing artist living with Icthyosis Vulgaris (a rare skin disorder), she spoke to me about her condition and how she felt connected with my work on the skin. She is my inspiration for this piece and also a way to raise awareness about Icthyosis. In ichthyosis vulgaris, the skin cells are produced at a normal rate, but they do not shed normally at the surface of the outermost layer of skin (stratum corneum) and are not shed as quickly as they should be. The result is a build-up of scales. The scales of ichthyosis vulgaris, sometimes called fish scale disease or fish skin disease No cure has been found for ichthyosis vulgaris, and treatments focus on controlling the condition.
