King Drawing

As an artist, I have always been fascinated by the beauty of ordinary objects. One of my favourite subjects to draw is playing cards, with their intricate designs and colours. For this piece, I decided to focus on a crumpled King card. I started by selecting the perfect paper for this piece. I wanted a heavy weight paper that would hold the texture of the crumpled card, so I chose a Fabriano Tiziano paper with a rough texture. Next, I carefully studied the card, paying close attention to the wrinkles, folds, and creases. I then started to lay down the first layers of colour using my coloured pencils. I used a combination of soft and hard coloured pencils to create a range of textures and depth. As I worked on the piece, I was mindful of the way light was reflecting off the card. I took my time to shade and blend the colours, capturing the subtle variations in hue and tone. I also added some cross-hatching to create a sense of texture and to bring the crumpled surface of the card to life. The end result was a hyperrealistic coloured pencil drawing that captured the essence of the crumpled King card. I am proud of this piece, as it showcases my technical skills as an artist and my ability to bring ordinary objects to life in a unique and captivating way. I hope that my love for the beauty of everyday objects shines through in this drawing, and that it inspires others to appreciate the magic that can be found in the simplest of things.
