About The Artwork

This piece is of a Knabstrupper pony foal called Pippi, born in East Yorkshire out of a foundation mare of this historic Danish breed at Willow Farm Stud. The foal was grazing in the paddock with her mother and looked up inquisitively with a knowing look far beyond her years as the photograph was taken. The Knabstrupper Filly piece was a digital sketch using a dark brown digital 6b pencil only, produced in around 60 hours from the reference photograph. The digital nature of this piece allowed it to be created on a virtual canvas size suitable for reproduction up to around 60 inches in width, with exceptionally fine details. The great white space to the left of the image gave the filly room to breathe, 3-month-old balancing the piece with air to spare.

~ I am a photographer, videographer and digital artist who also picks up high-level graphic design campaigns for international businesses. ~ Using an Apple iPad, Procreate and an Apple Pencil, all of my artworks are created digitally - a controversial yet contemporary choice. Instead of traditional media, my choice to use modern methods was borne out of a desire to create artwork that can be manipulated into any size, for any use, in any space. It mirrors my other pursuits into the creation of art through photography, videography and graphic design in a simpler, more thorough way. My pieces are created over many days in my studio space in Yorkshire, England. The studio is in the ground floor of a cottage built in the 1850s in the rural hamlet of Broomfleet, providing uncompromised views of the Humber Estuary and Lincolnshire beyond. You'll see the subjects of most of my pieces are equine. There is a beauty in the form of the horse that is just not seen elsewhere. Having spent my life appreciating the complex anatomical structures and systems coming together to create a graceful, powerful and impressive presence, their beauty is simply impossible to argue. It is through my work that I aim to capture this literal beauty in as simplistic form as is possible, whilst retaining structural detail.
