About The Artwork
I am a jazz singer living in Nicosia, Cyprus and am inspired to draw and paint music-related subjects. Born in 1966, I started painting after a head injury sustained in a car accident in 2013. The urge to paint became uncontrollable! Initially self-taught, after reaching the limit of what I could create on my own I took classes with Cypriot artist Elli Lestas. La Diva I is a drawing in pastels inspired by a 1956 photo of La Divina Maria Callas by Cecil Beaton. I admire La Divina greatly. Her expression in my portrait is what she might have felt about the coronavirus pandemic and its effect on musicians.
