ATTENTION: the work presented takes the entire format of the canvas. We therefore recommend that you hang it as it is, or with a frame, but not to put it on canvas because you risk cropping the pattern. Deeply marked by Schiele, Munch and the German expressionists, but also by various inspirations such as ancient or fantastic mythologies, or even Mapplethorpe and Visconti, his work is in constant tension between passion and narration. If from his beginnings Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle almost naturally claimed his expressionist inclinations, he knows today that through his research as his artistic practice, it is above all a work on memory that he carries out. Indeed, he never works "live", he prefers to photograph his model from different angles to choose what interests him in a pose, rather than transcribing the first truth. Even during a performance or in his studio, he stands with his back to his subject, imposing memorization and letting go. Immediate memory therefore, but also personal memory: through his erratic line, the artist tracks down his memories as intimate subjects like his nocturnal tribulations, his encounters or those close to him. Fascinated by ancient and fantastic myths since childhood, it is also a work on his own memory that he realizes by choosing to include them in his artistic research.

Self-taught artist, born in 1982, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle has developed a practice based on emotion and spontaneity. Fed up with words and concepts, he wanted to express himself in a different way and be in direct touch with materials. Deeply influenced by Schiele, Munch, but also drawing from diverse sources of inspiration like Antique or fantastic mythologies, Mapplethorpe, his work is in continual tension between passion, storytelling and aestheticism. Always guided by his instinct, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle’s erratic lines search and reveal emotions. This is why he has now a strong link to contemporary dance and explores letting go. A bit less than ten years ago, Laurent felt “ready” to show his work and exhibit. This process -talking to people and making new encounters- was a true revelation. Since then, he took part in many solo and groups shows as well as performances. In 2020 he decided to stop all other professional endeavors to dedicate himself to his art.
