For this work I was interested in creating a different kind of flower arrangement. Searching for an original idea I discovered there are no new ideas, only new combinations of existing ideas. I wanted to combine flowers in a way that was new so I use references of images of flowers found in art, science, fashion, advertising, film and animation. I combined individual flowers from multiple references to create new arrangements. This piece was particularly inspired by the Loewe Calendar photographed by Steven Meisel.

The paintings and sculpture I make are autobiographical abstractions. I’ve adapted my work to focus on conveying a sense of tone about specific experiences in my life. What I am after, visually, is akin to how smell and taste trigger memory. I combine this ethos with a duality of existence that is personally inherent. When confronted with external forces like order vs. chaos, right vs. wrong, nature vs. progress, I use my work to try and find a sense of balance. As the world changes, my perspective shifts too and in uncertain times I think it’s helpful to remember how beautiful and complex life can be and I would like my art to reflect that.
