A lifelong passion for painting has shaped my journey as an artist. Mostly self-taught, I decided to deepen my understanding and skills by pursuing a formal education. At the age of 69, I proudly graduated with a B.F.A. in Studio Art from the College of Charleston, marking a significant milestone in my artistic evolution. I am captivated by the dynamic nature of materials. Whether moving charcoal on paper, guiding oil paint with a brush, or molding clay by hand, the tactile interaction with these mediums is central to their creative process. Unlike traditional planners, I allow the artwork to unfold organically, with each stroke and form directing the next. This spontaneous approach reflects my belief that art is about process, color, form, and the materials themselves. Influenced by the philosophy that art reveals the unseen, I aim to offer viewers a personal, visceral experience. Inspired by Paul Klee's idea that art makes the invisible visible and Stella's assertion that "what you see is what it is," I invite each viewer to interpret my work uniquely, evoking a range of emotions from joy to discomfort. Embracing new technologies, I have integrated artificial intelligence into my practice. By feeding hundreds of images of my work into neural networks, they create new interpretations composed of countless fragments from previous pieces. This process embodies chaos and adventure, producing paintings that reflect the unpredictable nature of our world. These works are not meant to convey a specific message but to offer a raw, chaotic experience that mirrors life itself. Each of my pieces is a testament to my artistic philosophy: abandoning preconceived notions of what art should be and allowing each creation to define itself.
