ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The work on paper is a pastel drawing of a Mayan man. The artist looking to the history of Mesoamerican Art and the Mayan Indians depicts a male figure. Drawn with intense marks of yellow ochre, burnt sienna and burnt umber give the figure a conviction of self. Ordained with Green ear flares representing Jade a material the Mayan people highly cherished more than gold. The simple piece of jewelry gives a hint of the status and wealth of the figures. The figure displays withing the forehead a third eye. A symbol for the gate to the inner realms of self and higher consciousness. The image not only creates a portrait of Mayan Indian but an enlightened human aware of their spiritual self.
