About The Artwork

Monet has inspired my painting, Degas my drawing, and both of their styles are more like a "soul ID" for me rather than just iconic symbols of Impressionism. To me Degas' drawings are on a par with the greatest Renaissance masters and Monet took painting to the doorstep of abstract expressionism (Philip Guston!) Ironically, their loss of vision at the end of their careers plays a significant role in how artists following them used color and space, for their work relied on a more internal search for truth as their eyesight began to fail them. Painting was never the same after they broke away from even the unique Impressionist movement and began to interpret what they saw as simply a starting point for a much more intuitive and spiritual level of creation.
