About The Artwork
In order to put the simultaneity of many lines on the paper and to break the repetition of drawing, the brushes are used almost like an instrument. The bristles are spread apart so that spines or combs can run simultaneously in one path in a rhythmic flow over the cardboard. Genuine ink is not just black. It carries the impression of many colours in itself. It flows in shades depending on the pressure and velocity of the brush.

For decades, the Austrian artist Gerhard Flekatsch has been combining and re-evaluating his experiences in medicine, music and journalism through works of visual art such as photographs, videos, installations and paintings. At an early age he was introduced to painting and drawing in the studio of his grandfather, the painter Professor Richard Mahler. Since then he is working with a variety of techniques and methods. His artistic activity is focused on human imagination, perception and the discovery, that reality is in some sense personally constructed.
