Watercolor collaged onto watercolor. You're being chased. Deep within the interior of the unfamiliar house is a closet. In the ceiling of the closet is a hatch door. You know what that's for; to get the heck outta Dodge and escape the evil presence dogging you in this nightmare. You overturn an apple crate and climb onto a trunk and knee up onto a high shelf crowded with game boxes(Operation, Scrabble, Monopoly...)to unhinge the occulus and it takes all the upperbody strength you can muster to pull your(is a sleeping body heavier than an awake one to lift? remember to Google that when/if you wake up) janky butt up to safety. Once up, you pull at the hatch and lock it with a rusty hook and eye. Your rods and cones are adjusting to the dark as if you've shimmied into an Ad Reinhardt painting but when the grim lifts, BAM!, you are here in a chamber that is cross between cramped attic and ample concert hall. Red velvet seats with no space between, red curtains both opening and closing in a suffocating swish. As you survey the Upside Down into which you've ascended something brushes the hair on the back of your neck. When you spin to see what in the Sam Hill is touching you darkly you loop and spin again unable to stop. You spin and spin seeing nothing as you turn but a blur of redness but feeling the devil in your dervish. Light oozes around the cracks of the hatch locked door on which you're turning like a human drill. You feel someone trying the door from below. Blood pressure spikes send a million cold needles through your skin. When you wake up in the back seat of the car your parents are up front arguing about where you should go to pre-school when turn 3. It's snowing. You'll be at Grandma's cabin soon.
