About The Artwork
A view of the Retinto plains from the peninsular ridge. This sketch was done 'en plein air' . I walked with my morning coffee, up and through the woods. The vastness of the painted hills and the changing delicate light over the umbrella pines . The sketch came easily. I found myself mark making to describe the contours of the the land and trees. Once finished in fountain pen, i used a cotton bud and some water to soften the subtle light changes in the clouds.
