- Building environmental consciousness through art is what I do best - Hello! I'm Maria, a unique environmental artist fighting single-use plastic pollution across the US, Asia, and the Middle East. Drawing on my American upbringing and Assyrian roots, I've dedicated the past decade to crafting art and installations from plastic waste, shaping conscious behaviours towards how we consume plastic and how we dispose of it. With a Bachelor's degree in Art Education and a Master's in Florence, Italy, I have honed my skills to make a positive impact through art. For the past decade, my artistic journey has been focused on transforming trash into thought-provoking pieces of art, specifically addressing the issue of plastic pollution in urban and natural environments. Through my artwork, I strive to raise awareness, spark conversations, and inspire change. Drawing inspiration from my travels, I utilize discarded plastic materials to create captivating and visually compelling installations and art pieces. During my time in Europe, the Middle East, and currently Asia, I had the privilege of experimenting with sensorial installations that explore significant themes such as feminism, waste consumption, and my own cultural identity as an Assyrian, Iraqi. By combining art and environmental consciousness, I aim to foster a deeper connection between individuals and the environment, urging them to reconsider their choices and adopt more sustainable behaviors. Through my collaboration with MicroPlastics JO, an environmental organization I co-founded, and my engagement in environmental projects in Thailand and Indonesia, I am committed to using art as a catalyst for change. Thank you for joining me on this artistic adventure. Together, let's create a world where art becomes a powerful tool in shaping a sustainable future for all.
