Platypus #1 Drawing

This piece was created during a residency at QBank Gallery in Queenstown, Tasmania, as a series of works inspired by the geography and history of the local town. It pictures the skull of a platypus, and animal that probably swam in the town's river that has now been poisoned by mining runoff. It represents the natural environment that was destroyed in the valley in over a century of mining activity, as well as the ephemeral nature of biological life in contrast to the geological time that made those mountains.
