The gentle gradations of light and shadow play across the figure, highlighting the textures and subtleties of the body. My name is Oleksandra and I grew up in Ukraine, in the industrial city of Donbas, where handmade mountains were built after coal processing, and quarries with azure water appeared where mercury mining used to be. I always wanted to paint real green mountains and blue waters. Despite being surrounded by industrial landscapes and science, my artistic journey is a continuous quest to capture the beauty and purity of nature. I am nearsighted and see the world in patches of color. Often the blurred forms can be read in different ways, everyone finds a personal reading in certain shapes and colors. Not what the artist sees, but something of their own. I, even just in life, have visual deceptions. I see flowers on the lawn, which turns out to be a discarded ice cream wrapper. You can see the world as it is, or you can see it through the prism of your consciousness, your inner world. Due to my experience and perception of the world, I want to see only beautiful things, where even objects typically overlooked can appear attractive. The main mediums are painting, drawing, and photography, I work with watercolor, ink, and pastel.
