About The Artwork

Any kind of bout will, sooner or later, lead to a moment of exhaustion, during which we see the deep need the fighters have for each other – simply to remain standing on their feet. In place of long-standing rivalry comes a brief moment of apathy. The fight may be over, but the closeness of their bodies remains – in which the pointlessness of the confrontation is played out. Drawn from the classical subject of wrestling, which runs throughout the entire history of art, and beginning from the Hellenic figures of athletes, the artist illustrates the bout step by step. In avoiding detailed drawing of tensed muscles and background detail, the artist presents the wrestlers in simple form, illustrating more the interest in the configuration of their bodies within the space than the heat of their clash or the beauty of the scene. In some ways this reminds us of the photographic experiments of Eadweard Muybridge, with the same kind of serial nature and scientific leaning. However, the subject itself has a less specific nature, and the figures of the wrestlers are placed in a more ambiguous context.
