Maria Sidljarevitš’s richness of colour and a very distinct playful painting style are very characteristic.
Her art is expressive, filling the space of the painting with such intensity and emotion that even the
worlds transferred to the smallest of canvases seem to career inexorably away from the frames of the
picture to somewhere far away. Maria depicts only parts of different objects and imagery in the spaces
of her compositions, just like they are seen in real life – single expressions of something, chunks of a
larger system, inklings of the whole, a piece of someone’s window sill with a view of the big world. It is
as if the artist is saying that there is no such thing as a good or bad phenomenon of life, but just a part
of the universe.

I am intrigued as an artist by forwarding my ideas and thoughts with their initial content and meaning. How to relate to an object the way the viewer would perceive it as an abstract form, irrespective of his or her personal associations and not giving it either positive or negative evaluation? In my paintings I depict various objects and images as part a composition the way they also express in real life, serving as small parts of a big system. There are no such concepts as „good“ or „bad“ for the universe – every phenomenon of life is just a part of it. Maria Sidljarevitš received her master’s degree in painting from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2014. Maria Sidljarevitš has participated in exhibitions since 2008, she is a member of the Estonian Artists Association and was the chairman of the board of the Estonian Painters Association from 2015-2017.
