Drawing: Pastel on Paper.
All my drawings take a close look at a particular beauty expressed by nature. I love how this one is so full of the essence of Rose. Not cloying, but pretty over-the-top presentation of the unabashed, breathtaking beauty of roses. I like that this image makes you feel that you know what those petals would feel like.
The medium is oil pastel. It is distinguished from more chalk-like and powdery soft pastels by the binder used. Pigment in soft pastels is bound by water-soluble gums or methyl cellulose, while oil pastels are mixed with mineral oil and wax binders. Oil pastels offer rich, saturated color, and are best preserved behind glass. The drawing is executed on a dark shade of Plike, an Italian, acid-free paper.
For greater flexibility, some compositions are equally comfortable hung horizontally or vertically.
