About The Artwork

The struggle continues...a fight between Zebras two establish a pecking order. The struggle continues in South Africa as black and white continue to lash out at each other not realising they are self harming. The fight against yourself. No less violent or pointless. I prefer charcoal as the strong violent lines carry the feeling, anger and movement of the struggle. The stark emotion of black and white laid bare.

Paul Vosloo grew up in the village of Gonubie, South Africa. While studying Graphic Design at NMMU he discovered a natural affinity for the medium of pencil and charcoal. Since graduating from NMMU, he has travelled and worked around the world as a graphic designer. He has exhibited at the Ann Bryant Art Gallery, Tamasa, Imbizo Gallery, Etchings Gallery, The Green Gallery and had a solo exhibition in Cape Town. With each drawing I try to capture a fleeting emotion or moment. Sometimes that means a moment between time, the next a moment of drama and madness. In nature, as in life there is beauty in stillness and the fight to survive. I love the raw beauty and dark emotion of black and white imagery created in charcoal or pencil. I feel that I am at the beginning of my artistic journey. As each drawing is finished I find a new sense of urgency to create another. Since moving to the UK I have found a renewed energy to create, inspired by the endless inspiration living just outside London.
