About The Artwork

“Skull Queen 2017” Digital drawing; created in 2017. This digital painting is a unique and original work that belongs to a series of digital paintings I created, having the skull as the main theme. Skulls are one of the oldest symbols of our world, rich with cultural resonance and significance. You see them everywhere, representing death, mortality, or consciousness. It has a long and varied history of use with multiple overlapping interpretations. From the origins of Aztec skull art and the Jolly Roger that was hoisted on pirate flags, to the sugar skull for Mexico's Day of the Dead, there is a wealth of history and culture behind the skull, and of course a long artistic tradition. Most commonly it is seen as a representation of death and mortality, but it has many other uses including: to celebrate the memory of the dead and life, as a symbol of vanity, life after death and change. Nowadays the skull is often used in fashion and as a pure decoration. The unique combination of “cute but bad” has been increasingly popular in recent years. It probably shares some common roots with pop surrealism. We are now seeing it used in everything from toys and dresses to wallpaper and watches. Part of the visual appeal of a skull comes from the fact that it is so easily recognizable. My Skull Art Queen 2017 is full of romance, power and color. It was created initially with pencil on paper and finished digitally. I love creating Skulls and decorating them with butterflies, colors and flowers. Butterfly is the power of air, the ability to float upon a breeze. It is known for its darting flight; thus, it represents the mind and our ability to change it when necessary. Butterfly represents the never-ending cycle of life; they awaken a sense of lightness and joy and remind us to get up and move. Butterflies bring color and joy with them thus for this art flowers and butterflies are the main decorative elements.

Digital Artist and Surface Pattern Designer ARTIST STATEMENT My art is a form of expression and an extension of my personality. My creative mind never stops, and everything around me is an inspiration for my work, even the most minor and insignificant things in life. I started doing art at a very young age. For me, art becomes a source of search, processing, and ultimately peace with various experiences. Sometimes I draw figures, faces, and things in which I find something profound. I like to capture a moment and put it in a work of art. What I like most about the design are the emotions. I love seeing something shaking in someone's eyes and face, something just below the surface, and I can capture it with my drawing. I want to inspire people with works of art that focus on the resilience, strength, and connection of the human spirit and emotions. After graduating from University, I worked in many Local Design Offices. At the end of 1999, I started focusing on web design. I spent the last 21 years as a web designer and developer at Cyprus's largest Telecommunication Authority Company. Although family and work commitments prevailed, I continued my passion for art in my spare time. I am incredibly compassionate, and in many ways, I put myself wholeheartedly into every work of art. I never focus on specific art styles and themes, as I do not want to be framed in a particular technique and be more faithful to my emotions and imagination. Different media always allow me to express other ideas, and during the research, new areas of interest emerge and lead to my subsequent work. Sometimes I even use themes to satisfy my obsession with colors and imagination. In a way, I communicate with this elusive sense of absolute joy in my art, and every time I feel happy in my life, I create art with colors full of fantastic images and objects. I always find beauty in bad things and try to transfer them to powerful and unique works of art. My work has been constantly rooted in the many personal emotions, moments, and things I have drawn from life for the past ten years. Evolution is my primary goal. It's something I demand of myself and my job. In recent years my works have been created spontaneously. At first, I did not realize it, but in the process, looking at them as a whole, I can say that, indeed, there is an explosion of imagination. I avoid pre-defining the true meaning of the messages I send through my work and letting the viewer travel through my art.
