About The Artwork

(Persona: Lat. Mask) Even though in philosophy it normally signifies the individual in their human uniqueness, singularity or particularity, according to Jung the persona is a mask that an individual shows to the rest of the world in order to leave a specific impression on others – but also in order to hide his or her inner Self. Through new works I attempt to redefine the meaning of self-portraiture, to embody the relativity of identity, as much as the conflict between the Persona, the Ego, the Self, and the mental representation of oneself… This project’s main element is my self-portrait – cut out of the catalogues left behind from my previous exhibition. It possesses a certain mask quality, a mask that first and foremost hides my inner world from the public. In this project I experiment with contradiction of opposites: active/passive; bright/dark; line/surface; transparent/dense; background/front plain; left/right; upward/downward; fraction/totality; fullness/the void… Also, I use playful movement. The disturbing visual signifier of this project is the repetition of self-portraits that give rise to a pattern and simulates a virtual chessboard, jigsaw or video game

Date of birth: 28. 01. 1971. Place of birth: Belgrade, Yugoslavia My manifesto is definitely not fastened. As a matter of fact, it took me quite some time to get rid of all firmly rigid fixed notions, of being fastened. Liberty is essential for me in the choice of media, as much as in the artistic approach. I believe that the artist as human always grows through change. Who knows how I will think in ten or twenty years. But I know for sure that I am free from the prejudiced assumption that I must always follow the same way of thinking.
