ABOUT THE ARTWORK

A well dressed woman walks towards a passageway in a city. In the shadows of that passageway, a young man stands against a wall and looks in her direction. One in a series, depicting a scene in which 2 people meet. Each meeting may be intended, unintended, felicitous, romantic, vexatious, sad, fleeting moments where the people don’t know each other, or even stalking. Ambiguity and mystery is deliberate for the viewer to add their own story to these almost cinematic scenes Drawn with an abstract realism style, giving a modern presentation of each scene. Charcoal on stretched linen, wood support, with side tacks. All charcoal works are sprayed with several coats of fixative. Hooks and wire added to back for hanging before sending.

SBBoursot is a multdisciplinary Anglo-French artist based in the Côte d'Or region of France. An emerging artist in terms of professional practice, her work is collected in the UK, US and across Europe. She has exhibited at the Pastel Society Annual Exhibition at The Mall Galleries in London and at the Salon de Dessin et Peinture à l’Eau at Le Grand Palais Emphémère in Paris. Her charcoal portraits were awarded the Prix Fusain at Art-Sciences-Lettres and in December 2023 she was a finalist of the Visual Artist Association Professional Artist Award and awarded “Highly Recommended Exhibitor”. Attracted to figurative subjects, she presents stories of being, interpreting them through an impressionist and expressive lens, allowing each piece to develop intuitively. Working in a variety of mediums, she likes materials she can touch and get messy with. Charcoal is a recurring favourite, that she manipulates both wet and dry, creating different textures, effects and sfumato, with the drama of the monochrome, while remaining soft and matt.
