About The Artwork

Drawing in which white and yellow dominate in honor of the papal colors, as the work is inspired by the imaginary portrait of Bonvicino di Assisi, a powerful Templar knight of the 13th century. He influenced the fortunes of the city of Perugia, in whose annals he was remembered as a valuable interlocutor between the city and the Holy See: in fact, he was in the service of as many as four pontiffs, who preferred to entrust themselves to the care and trust of men belonging to military monastic orders, as Bonvicino was, because of their unquestioned loyalty and diplomatic skills. Of the astute Templar we remember numerous important services carried out with dexterity and skill under each pontificate in which he served. Among the most delicate tasks was the one entrusted to him in 1240 by Gregory IX, who charged him with the task of diluting the bitterness that had arisen among the Perugian families, who were arrayed in opposing factions regarding the expansionist intentions of Frederick II of Swabia on their territories.

Since my childhood I have been painting and drawing as an absolute vocation for life: being an artist is everything to me. During my thirtyfive years of experience, after my school and academic training, I have developed my artistic style. This is supported by a solid figurative base also coming from the study of Greco-Roman art, but I have completely interpreted it in a contemporary key, ranging from portraits to sacred art, from painting on canvas, wood, leather, ceramics and wax to wall paintings. I often use oil paints, acrylic temperas, enamels, pencils, ink and charcoal, inserting my style in what some critics of art define as "Contemporary Renaissance". However It is a language characterized by new creative impulses that can make the universal canons of beauty or the intense depth of the artistic idea and concept current. The particularity of my work emerges not only from my conspicuous activity of painting mostly inspired by the world of music and theatre (organizing several solo, group and permanent exhibitions in Italy and abroad), but also in the ability to express myself in other well-defined figurative worlds: imaginary portraits, paintings for Historical Reenactments called "Palio", artistic works for Haute Couture Houses and Publishing Houses and even the publications of my poems. In my imaginary portraits I have given a face to some physically unknown historical characters belonging to the cultural and religious world just through literary information, interpreting them as people of our time with the customs of their time. With regard to the paintings related to Historical Reenactments (Palii, plural of "Palio"), I have taken commissions from institutions or foundations of about 90 different Italian cities, allowing me to obtain the record of 112 artworks created for as many historical events. I have also worked with Haute Couture Houses (Roberto Cavalli and Prada) for many years accomplishing artistic hand painted works on finished clothing, for several collections. I have also edited artistic representations for many publications such as the series "Artusi'', the covers of the poetic volumes "El árbol del conocimiento" and "Los caprichos de la luna" in Madrid (Pigmalion Edypro) and "Codice interiore" (Cantagalli Editor) in Siena, winner of the First International Literary Prize "Spoleto Festival Art"in 2013.
