About The Artwork

"The Uninvited Guest", 2015, conte crayon over acrylic on paper, mounted on white enameled plywood, 28 inches tall by 24 inches wide (70 x 60 cm). NOTE: Dimensions are those of the plywood base to which the drawing is attached. Although technically an outdoor scene, the image is packed with almost claustrophobic activity as vegetable forms jostle and crowd into a space limited by the painted surface of the paper. Colors are restricted, soft and unobtrusive, allowing the rhythms of line and subtle shading to dominate the shallow space. The drawing is on heavyweight brown kraft paper, lightly varnished for UV protection, with the “active” area of the image brushed with a background of off-white acrylic. The paper is tacked (not glued or otherwise attached) with steel thumbtacks to a panel of 1/4” cabinet-grade plywood, sanded and enameled in white. The paper is mounted in such a way that the natural texture and buckling of the surface remains apparent. The entire panel is framed in a wood “floater” frame, ready to hang; it is signed and dated both front and back, with title on back.

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, and raised in the rural Appalachian foothills of the northeastern part of the state, my childhood was surrounded by the natural world, the rigid social and cultural traditions of the deep South, the distant rumblings of 1960's social changes, and the panoramas of human existence revealed to me through reading, music and art. Most of my adult life has been spent working as a graphic designer in Birmingham, South Florida, and Dallas -- primarily in the television industry -- where I was immersed yet another hybrid universe, a fun-house world of ego, transitory celebrity, and social manipulation. These days I live and work in a cabin on the edge of the Ozark National Forest in northwest Arkansas, decompressing.
