About The Artwork
Illustration for Friedrich Nietzsche’s masterpiece “Thus Spake Zarathustra,” a mash-up of French illustrator Gustave Doré’s collected works. The idea was to imagine how Doré would have illustrated “Zarathustra” had he lived long enough (the work was published shortly after Doré died.) The illustrations were done in ink to resemble engravings. There are 103 illustrations in all, corresponding to the approximately 90 chapters of the work (as well as title page, frontispiece, chapters, etc.)
