ABOUT THE ARTWORK
First of all I was inspired by the beautiful plywood chair designed by dutchman Cees Braakman. The way the backrest is mounted transformes the backrest into an instant face. I've made a few other works using bars in the frame of the image so I thought why not try a ticket booth. The combination yields a cartoonish image that nevertheless lasts.

Ever since I can remember I'm drawing although I had no examples whatsoever in my childhood. I grew up on a small farm near Venlo in the the south of the Netherlands. The urge to draw finally lead to the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming Tilburg where I graduated in 1990 in drawing and painting.From that time on I am working on a collection mostly dominated by chairs depicted in very different ways. Perspective and perception are crucial elements in this never ending quest. These works are drawn with pencil or painted with watercolor. Still driven by my urge to draw.
