I didn't know the population had dropped below 5,000, but apparently it has. If these amazing animals die out it would be a massive tragedy! According to livescience.com, "There are more tigers in captivity than there are in the wild. According to the WWF, there are about 5,000 captive tigers in the United States alone, but there are fewer than 3,200 tigers in the wild. The International Union for the Conservation of Natures (IUCNs) Red List of Threatened Species categorizes all remaining tiger species as endangered.
