Indian ink on Scratchbord hardboard / 305 x 229mm

This series, entitled Native British Trees, proposes a bleak comment of our aggressive present and a probable near future; a stark warning to how our actions devastate the earth, or how Britain’s interference abroad can impact our nation for years to come. The outlines of mature Oaks, Limes, Willows or Elms bear a remarkable resemblance to that of an artillery explosion, detonated missile or military airstrike, which in turn, have been manufactured on (or originated from) our soil.

These are studies are wonderfully subtle Scratchbord™ drawings of images from news reports, merged and manipulated to look like outlines of trees. Scratchbord™ is an an eco-friendly, acid-free and archival clay and India ink coated hardboard panel for scratchboard artwork.

Artwork is varnished and fixed allowing the scratchboard to be framed without glass (if required).
