About The Artwork

This work was created on Mylar, a semi-translucent plastic drafting film. The painting is meant to be seen from the front, and should be framed against a bright white background. The image is a combinations of brushed black in, acrylic paint and collaged graphite brush strokes. Liquid graphite was brushed onto a separate Mylar sheet, then cut out and collaged onto the final artwork. My artistic practice draws on 20th century abstraction, including well known artists like Jackson Pollack and Willem DeKooning, as well as lesser known artists like Henri Michaux. In my work the 'language' of abstraction is reconsidered as a lexicon to be manipulated and formally represented, and the work looks to digital processes like Photoshop (image) and Pro Tools (sound) for inspiration.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My work is a formal exploration of the 'language' of abstraction, whereby the various marks (drips, stains, brush strokes, etc) normally associated with spontaneous painterly action are performed off-site and re-presented in a manner that references digital and/or non-linear methods of image creation. The finished artwork is, despite its spontaneous appearance, a hybrid of painting and collage that has been realized slowly over time through much consideration. Richard Feaster received an MFA in Painting from Tulane University, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. He has exhibited widely in the US and abroad, including the National Academy Museum, City University of New York and the Cheekwood Museum. His work has has been featured in the periodical New American Paintings, among others. Collections include the FirstBank Janet & Jim Ayer’s Collection of Tennessee Art, the Music City Center and the Thompson Hotel. He lives and works in Nashville, TN.
