The images in this series grew out of the (impossible) fantasy of being untethered to place or time. Impossible because we are always subject to and affected by the narrative of our lives; our attachment to the places in which our stories are played out and the events we witness and become part of. I hope the images inspire the fantasy of lightness and freedom from the pain of attachments and separations, but also that they remind us of the impossibility of that fantasy. The material - wool dust - reminds us of the transience of everything; including our lives and the histories we are part of. My images are often influenced by historical Japanese images in which historical scenes feel very much like fantasy, and where even the harshest and most painful subject is made beautiful.
