I am Ishwar Gurung, a self- taught artist currently based in Siliguri, West Bengal, with roots deeply embedded in the cultural and natural richness of Northeast India. My work explores a haunting, introspective realm—what I call "Dystopian Spiritualism"where darkness and transcendence intertwine. Drawing from the mist-laden landscapes of my upbringing and the existential tensions of modern life, my paintings depict surreal, atmospheric worlds that blur the line between decay and divinity. Through brooding palettes, fractured forms, and ethereal symbolism, I confront themes of impermanence, inner conflict, and the search for meaning in an unraveling world. My art is not merely a depiction of dystopia but a meditation on the spiritual residue within it—where shadows breathe and silence speaks. Each piece invites the viewer to wander through these liminal spaces, questioning, reflecting, and perhaps finding a strange solace in the unknown. This is my visual philosophy: a fusion of the desolate and the sacred, a testament to the beauty that lingers in the abyss.
